Objective: Defender works on angling, gap control and stick position while the forward works on puck protection, dekes, deception and being strong with the puck.
Description:
- Attacker starts with a puck facing the boards.
- Defender starts behind the attacker facing the same way.
- After the whistle, the attacker tries to get by the defender and skate the puck between the cones.
- The defender works to prevent the attacker from skating through the cones by forcing the attacker to the outside.
- Coaches and players can keep score! 2 points for going through the gate and 1 point for defending the gate.
Points of emphasis:
- Defenders:
- Work to keep players to the outside of the ice with good body and stick position.
- Forwards:
- Work to gain middle ice with dekes and good puck protection.
Variations:
- Can set this up in different areas of the ice.
- Can make the gates larger (easier) or smaller (harder).
- Can set up different point structures.
