Someone asked me what advice I’d give my younger self. Two words: slow down. For a long stretch of my career, my ego was wrapped around my success. Probably too much. There was an insecurity in me that got filled every time the company hit a number. Every time I could point at something and say, look what I built. That feeling isn’t real. It doesn’t last, and it doesn’t hold you up. I’d hand credit to other people in the room while quietly needing everyone to know it was actually me. What changed it took me years to see. The work that fills me has almost nothing to do with the car in the driveway or anyone else’s definition of “made it.” It’s helping someone get to their next step. A better job. A better life. I built a whole career chasing the wrong scoreboard. The good news is you can change the scoreboard. I did. What were you measuring ten years ago that you’ve stopped measuring now?
