From December 10, 1997, to December 18, 1999 i lived in the top of an over 1,000 year old redwood tree to protect it from being cut down as well as to call attention the importance of our forests around the world. i came down from the tree, known as Luna, after we negotiated an agreement to protect Luna and the grove around the tree. i gained international attention for my action and spent the next 15 years leveraging the attention and energy coming my way to support individuals, organizations, and communities around the world. Lyme Disease and numerous injuries caused me to have to take a break from touring and being in service to and focus on healing my own personal landscape. For many years, i removed myself from the public spotlight as it was exhausting and depleting being famous for being a volunteer-- which means everything and everyone constantly needing and wanting things from me, and most either not being able to, or thinking they shouldn't have to (because i am an activist) pay me in reciprocity for my time. i continued to do things behind the scenes as my physical and health well being allowed me to. Service is core to my heart and soul as a human being. i find many ways to express that even when injured and sick. i have partially returned to the public spotlight again (September 2021) focusing on helping people understand the importance of the connection between the health of the mind, heart, body, and spirit of the individual and how that connects to the world around us. i also post things on my public Facebook page www.facebook.com/JuliaButterflyHillOffical that are meant purely for humor and lightness of being as these have been absolutely vital in helping me through the storms that life has sent me. My goal is to provide content that informs and inspires people to be better than we know ourselves to be and to encourage service as a core value.
