Note: This Windows release is signed with a newly renewed code-signing certificate. Because Windows SmartScreen builds reputation per certificate, you may temporarily see an "unrecognized app" warning. This build is properly signed and safe — if prompted, select More info → Run anyway. The warning will clear as the certificate establishes reputation.

AppFlowy has made significant progress over the last two years. It now offers one of the most complete Notion-style database experiences, including Gallery, List, Feed, and Chart views, along with advanced filters, two-way relations, rollups, calculations, database templates, and linked views.
For teams focused on collaboration, AppFlowy supports multi-user collaborative editing, inline comments, version history, and granular permissions. The development team actively evolves the product based on customer and community feedback.
We also apologize for not communicating proactively about our decision not to support end-to-end encryption (E2EE) during the early stages of AppFlowy's development a few years ago. Our primary target audience has always been enterprise teams, and for that use case, E2EE is often not the optimal technical choice. There are alternative productivity tools available that offer E2EE for users who prioritize that approach.
That said, AppFlowy remains a privacy-first product. For example, AppFlowy does not collect telemetry to track user activity and can be deployed in a fully air-gapped environment with zero external communication.
A few points worth mentioning that you can verify independently:
-
AFFiNE collects telemetry by default, including feature usage, application errors, and crash reports.
-
Even when self-hosting AFFiNE, some communications are still made to AFFiNE-operated servers.
-
The company behind AFFiNE appears to be in a maintenance phase, with only one developer currently maintaining the project.
AFFiNE's standout feature is its Canvas/whiteboard integration. For visual thinkers and teams that combine brainstorming with structured documentation, this hybrid document-and-canvas workflow is unique among open-source tools. For individual users, it can also be a cost-effective option.

There's now a comprehensive step-by-step self-hosting guide at appflowy.com/docs, and a dedicated video series walking through the full deployment: link

AppFlowy's database capabilities have advanced significantly and are among the most feature-complete options available for organizations seeking a self-hostable alternative to Notion.
AppFlowy currently supports: Grid (table), Kanban, Calendar, Gallery, List, Feed, Chart views, along with Advanced filters, Two-way relations, Rollups, Calculations and Aggregations, Database templates, Grouping and Sorting options, Linked view of data source, Database row page, and multi-row bulk actions.
You can find our latest release notes here and here
AFFiNE's database only offers Table and Kanban views, and lacks critical property types including Relation and Rollup, making it unsuitable for real project management or CRM-style workflows where cross-database filtering and aggregation are essential. It also doesn't support linked views of a database across pages, meaning you can't embed a filtered view of an existing database elsewhere in your workspace, which is a must-have for power users building Notion-style systems. On the UX side, row detail pages can't be opened as full pages, hiding properties behaves counterintuitively, and bulk row actions are more limited compared to AppFlowy's multi-row edit, delete, and duplicate support.
