"This journey, marked by continuous learning and resilience, significantly developed my self-esteem and confidence. Overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities have shaped who I am today."
"Jerone is a pro. He came out to join us on set as an extra for an indie film. We were behind schedule. He waited patiently for us, knowing that we might not even get to the scene. When we did shoot with him, he was great — energetic, on point and took all direction without hesitation."

Our crowdfunding campaign launches soon. Tell us now how you’d like to help — a financial gift, goods or services, hands-on time, or simply spreading the word — so we can hit the ground running the day we go live.
Please note: This form does not collect money or process donations. It is a pre-campaign promise tracker only. Once the campaign is live, we’ll reach back out to see if you’d like to follow through on your pledge. Nothing here is binding, and no payment is taken.
The Film
A father and son who have never met. Two cups of coffee. One conversation thirty years in the making.
An intimate two-hander about reconciliation, restraint, and the silences between people who share blood but not history. Chris has waited his whole life for this meeting. Derrell agreed to it without being sure of what he came to say.
It plays out in real time, in a single booth of a quiet diner — no exposition, just two men, a waitress refilling their cups, and everything they can’t yet bring themselves to ask. Truth, it turns out, is not the same as resolution.
Director’s Statement
Why I Wrote Coffee
COFFEE began as a thought experiment. I have never met my biological father. For most of my adult life, that absence has lived in me as a question I never quite let myself ask out loud — until I started writing this script. What would happen if I reached out? What would I feel walking into that room? What would he feel? What version of myself would I bring? What version of him would arrive?
COFFEE is the answer to those questions, played out in real time. It is not autobiography. It is not closure. It is what I imagine the beginning of that relationship might look like — performed, fragile, painfully alike, and impossible to resolve in a single sitting.
“So many of us — Black men especially — carry the weight of an absent father as silence. COFFEE puts two of those silences in a room together and watches what happens.”
— Jerone Arnold Darden, Writer & Director
The Roles
3 Roles · Director does not appear on camera
Lead
Chris
34 · Black Male
A son meeting his father for the first time. Anxious, quietly desperate, raised in the city. He has rehearsed this meeting for thirty years and still doesn’t know what he’s going to say.
Lead
Derrell
65 · Black Male
The father who left. Polished, guarded, suburban. He agreed to this meeting but isn’t sure why. He carries the guilt without naming it — and he is never the villain.
Supporting
Nancy
18–25 · Female · Any ethnicity
The waitress. Warm and easy, unaware of what’s unfolding at the table. Each refill gives the men permission to pause. A silent emotional witness.
Support & Get Involved
Independent · Pre-Production
This is an independent passion project; on-camera and crew compensation is currently limited / deferred as the film moves toward production and festival submission. Honesty up front matters more than a number on a page.
A crowdfunding campaign is coming soon. In the meantime, the most valuable support is in-kind: a location, gear, or your craft.
We're crewing up for a Fall 2026 shoot in the Lehigh Valley. Compensation is deferred as the film’s funding comes together, with credit, meals on set, and footage for your reel. Black and LGBTQ+ creatives are especially encouraged to apply.
Applications close July 10. Selections will be made by July 19. If you apply, keep an eye on your inbox — we’ll be in touch by email.
Exhibition
Production is planned for Fall 2026, with festival submissions to follow and community screenings across the Lehigh Valley once the film is complete.
