Since 2020, Adora Nwofor and Taylor McNallie have been targeted by the Calgary Police Service for their activism, and they need community support more than ever. We're relaunching this fundraiser after years of community inaction and legal bills coming and going without

#YYC Calgary Police harass and arrest an unhoused community member on Sunday, December 10th, while questioning their winter scarf (not a keffiyeh) and if they're involved in any of the protests for Palestine.

It's winter in Calgary, everyone walking past this situation is wearing a winter jacket - some even wearing hat and *gasp* scarves. But the 5+ officers are going to get to the bottom of why this unhoused man is wearing a scarf.

Today we launch this campaign in support of two Black women, Adora Nwofor & Taylor McNallie, who are being targeted for their work as activists in Calgary, Alberta. The Calgary Police Service are stacking disturbing charges to strategically silence these women and their work. 1/

Tomorrow we will hear the sentencing verdict on 3 charges Taylor McNallie received during her participation in protests demanding the firing of Alex Dunn. We will be outside the courthouse starting at 1PM serving up coffee, tea and hot chocolate, as well as inside to take notes.
Taylor sits comfortably on a reading chair, her head resting on her hand as she looks into the camera. Behind her are images of Black Freedom Fighters.

Adora Nwofor, president of Black Lives Matter YYC, is a tireless advocate against systemic anti-Black racism. As of June 2023, CPS has begun targeting Adora Nwofor with 3 criminal charges, as well as a “hate crime” that was withdrawn two weeks later due to “clerical error.” 2/

What is charge stacking? “When you’re arrested for a crime, law enforcement officers have the power to submit more than one charge against you. Doing this can often strengthen the main charge and make it more likely that you’ll be found guilty.” 4/ ricelawflorida.com/Criminal-Charg…

On March 5 Taylor will be in court over a defamation lawsuit from a Calgary Police officer, who Taylor named online after he acted in violence at a rally for Palestine on November 19 2023. To date, this is the third CPS officer to use a defamation lawsuit against Taylor. 1/

The Stop the Stack YYC campaign aims to shed light on the potential implications of these charges on the broader landscape of activism and community advocacy. The charges against Nwofor and McNallie raise critical questions about the legal rights of protestors and activists. 5/
