Norman MacCaig, one of Scotland's most loved poets, was born on this day. Seamus Heaney famously said he had "direct access to the word hoard" and he wasn't wrong there. So what's your favourite poem by Norman MacCaig?

With great sadness we hear of the passing of the great Gaelic poet Aonghas Dubh MacNeacail. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Gerda and the family. As a founder of the SPL, and a bright light on Scotland's poetry scene for decades, he'll be hugely missed. RIP

Ivor Cutler was born on this day 100 years ago. Why is today not a national holiday? Why are we not confined to our sitting rooms, looking glum, eating porridge, our children micturating onto a large sponge. CUTLER INTERVIEWS CUTLER Dir: @MrEwanMorrison

We're hearing that Tom Leonard has died. If confirmed, it's no exaggeration to say a giant of Scottish literature has left the stage. His interrogation of language, how it's used to obfuscate as much as to communicate, and to dominate as much as to describe, remains timely.
