Super Mario 64, You’re My One and Only
After I completed Super Mario Odyssey for the first time earlier this year, it got me thinking about my relationship with 3D Mario games. In this Virtual Bastion post, I wrote about those feelings and how much my heart belongs to the original Super Mario 64, despite everything that came after.

A Return to The Elder Scrolls Online
A lot has changed in The Elder Scrolls Online since I last visited Tamriel a half-dozen years ago. Would a return now be welcome or woeful? My answer lies here on Virtual Bastion.
Final Fantasy XIV: Springtime in Doma
It would appear that this is developing into some sort of habit. That’s to say, in recent years, something about the winter to spring changeover compels me to resub to Final Fantasy XIV. It may just be that this time of year tends to be when I’m between games, with those from the holidays complete and those on the horizon yet to be released. However, I’ll admit that this year the itch to get back into the game occurred while winter was still in full swing, as I hoped on for a few short sessions during one of FFXIV’s free login campaigns back in January. My focus then was on leveling my alt, Ynume, through the Ninja questline. I got close to finishing its story but not close enough. Upon obtaining a new sub, I set my sights first on getting Ynume to a level 50 Ninja.

Rethinking Rougelikes
Sometimes, a game comes along that makes you question the gamer you think you’ve become. For me, that game is Saros, a stunning-looking property with an attached mechanic – that of being a “rougelike” – that feels out of reach. But is it, really? I mulled over that question here on Virtual Bastion.

A Dearth of Good Game Writing?
Love it or hate it, Crimson Desert is making lots of waves both for what it is and what it isn’t. What follows is my two-cent take on its lacking story and the question “where has all the good game writing gone?”
Final Fantasy VI – Mog, Umaro, Gau, and the Grind
With The Returners, um…returned, at least as I knew them from the World of Balance, and nothing before the group but the Warring Triad and Kefka, it was time to do the only natural thing: grind. Grind out levels and side quests before the endgame. This is the way.
Right?
Right. So to the grind we go!
