TAM charity- Tyneside Association of Malayalees and St Stephens’ Primary have together raised funds in excess of £600 as part of a charity event put together by the Indian community in the School recently. North Tyneside Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn and Head Teacher of St Mary’s Catholic Comprehensive School John Foster were in attendance alongside other guests. 8. Food Banks: A large number of people are now dependent on food banks and the kindness of others to survive. If anyone would like to donate non-perishable groceries to be shared with people in need, they can leave their gifts at the piety stall and they will be donated to one of the food banks.

9. Bishop Seamus has asked Fr Brown to move to Gateshead to be parish priest at St Joseph`s and St Wilfrid`s. Fr Sean Hall will be the new parish priest at St Mary`s and SS Peter and Paul. Fr Brown will say his last Mass at St Mary`s on Tuesday 28th August at 7.30pm. There will be some refreshments afterwards.

10. Ordination to the Priesthood Bishop Seamus writes: Daniel Fitzpatrick will be ordained to the priesthood for our Diocese on Saturday 6 July 2013 at 11.00 am at St Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle. Although some seating is reserved there will be spare seats and parishioners from around the Diocese are welcome to come along to the Ordination Mass to join in this special celebration – just turn up on the day. It would be wonderful to have a full Cathedral as a welcome for our new priest

11. Little Sisters of the Poor Sr Rose of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Newcastle will be making an appeal to help their work on the weekend of July 6th-7th at all Masses

CAFOD is working with another 170 charities to demand that G8 tackle the root causes of hunger, for thought there is sufficient food in the world, 870 million people don’t have enough to eat. The first stage will be to bombard the Prime Minister’s Office with freepost messages reminding him how important it is to solve the problem once and for all. Cards will be available in the coming weeks, followed by further action. Pope Francis will certainly expect Catholics to be spearheading the campaign so get your pens ready to sign and send the cards when they arrive!
