I live in the rural West where life is casual. As one of my riding students puts it, we’re not fancy. I have more pairs of jeans than dresses in my closet. My go-to shoes are my Fatbaby Ariat boots. I love sewing, photography, horses and dogs. My latest obsession is running (wait, did I just type that?) To date I have completed 2 half marathons, 1 triathlon and several shorter distance races. My number of running clothes are starting to compete with my number of jeans. I share my life with my husband of 31 years, 2 Labrador retrievers, 3 horses and Sam the cat.
I’ve just bought a pattern – NewLook 6934 and cant find any reference to how much fabric I need to buy for size 12 dress. Can you please advise where I can get this information. Thanks.
Hi Gill,
Size 12 dress for view A & B is 45″ wide you need 1 5/8, 60″ wide you need 1 1/2. For View C you need 45″-3/4, 60″ -5/8. Contrast skirt 45″-1 5/8, 60″-7/8. Lining for all view is 45′-3/4 yd.
Hope this helps!
I just found your entry about Vogue 8885, which I’m trying to make up. The pattern envelope says view D has French seams, and the instructions do (as you note) tell you to put the fronts wrong side together . . . but as I read ahead, you never turn the seams into French seams! At what point do the seam allowances get hidden? (Does this question make sense?) Thank you!
Hi Julia, Well that makes sense to me now. The directions are missing the French seam finishing steps. I just thought they had a bust in the directions and meant to say “right sides” together. I didn’t remember that View D said it had French Seams. I didn’t use French seams as I did a very narrow serged seam instead. I believe that if you want to do the French seams, you would complete them at that first step. Does that help? Thanks for stopping by. ~Teri
