Windows to Linux Migration Guide: How to escape the walled garden and liberate your computing. Kindle Edition
This book addresses the issues raised by people who are frustrated by the user experience with their laptop and desktop computers, running recent versions of the Windows operating system. It seems as though the applications have not improved much in the way of features. There is less privacy and security, but more pressure to register and buy subscriptions. The software is largely proprietary and closed source, with tight restrictions on how it is used.
On a deeper level, the frustration comes from computer users not having broad choices and being squeezed by corporate efforts to maximize value for shareholders. You've seen this before. It is literally the same kind of problem behind "shrinkflation" in food products or poor service quality in the airlines.
The Solution:
The solution offered is to migrate to GNU/Linux (or just, "Linux"), the operating system with advanced features, a vast array of fully featured applications, while also free and open sourced. Free as in both "freedom" and "no cost". To be open sourced means the underlying code of the system and its applications are available for examination, may be modified, and may be shared with others.
The bottom Line:
Move to Linux. It just works and does not nag the user. Here is a guide, succinct and to the point.
Linux applies the Unix Philosophy and smart operating practices to build an operating system sunning most of the internet, the world's top supercomputers, and several top notch desktop and workstation environments which serve companies, schools, gamers, and regular people who just want to get things done.
The book also includes a list of Linux distributions which are on the leading edge of a trend called "immutable" and "declarative" systems. These are exceptionally reliable, resistant to trouble from upgrades, and very easy to duplicate across any number of other computers. Not only are the new breed of Linux distributions far more reliable and stable, they have cracked the wall between distributions such that tens of thousands of applications or software utilities are available.
Not only does Linux "just work," but people can get the tools they need for their daily computing needs.

About the author

I write about things learned during my career in the airline industry, living and flying in the U.S. and abroad. Read my books to learn ways we can use information technology to improve our lives. I always keep a note-taking app open to write about useful knowledge and how to share it with readers.
"I enjoy writing those small, compact, but meaty handbooks which help people do
things to make their lives better. The picture books are a favorite of mine. Come
on - who doesn't love a stunning sunrise or to tiptoe among the anvil tops? Alan
Bean was totally correct, that "we're still in the Garden."
Books about the WebSDR, RTLSDR and KiwiSDR technologies come from my experience as a licensed amateur and commercial radio operator. It is amazing how one can be anywhere in the world but tune in live broadcasters somewhere else. I'll show you how to do it even when official streaming sites are blocked. SDRs are real radios, so you need technical know how on where to tune and setting up proper modes and filters. Internet SDRs help dictators fail:
"I lived for a while in a place where BBC and VOA radio broadcasts were jammed,
and their websites blocked. With KiwiSDRs, I could stream AM radio to my smart
phone from a receiver in London - or New York, totally evading the censors. Freedom
expands, friends. Information wants to be free. Know that. It is thermodynamic."
The book, "Censorship's Grave" comes from my experience working within countries with heavy censorship and becoming an expert at circumventionism. The surprising truth is how censorship has failed (and the dictators know it). Yet, there are Western politicians who want to block websites in the USA. Read the book to learn how mass communication technology, since the printing press, defeated censorship. Red state book banners have zero chance of eliminating knowledge they don't like.
I am enthusiastic about free and open source software and have published popular operating systems based on GNU/Linux.
