I started this fic in December 2022, and then it lay fallow for large periods of time because I was so overwhelmed by the idea of planning something this detailed and plotty. I'm so happy to have it done and posted! I'm on cloud nine.

I took Eldest Niece on an adventure into the city yesterday. The event we'd planned to attend didn't work out, but we hit the Strand bookstore, where a very nice stranger helped EN find a cozy sapphic fantasy novel. (She got two other books, including one she's not allowed to read. OOPS.) We also got strawberry tanghulu, which got thumbs up from both of us.

EN is...very 12 going on 13 going on I don't even know, so I had to give her plenty of time to NOT speak, but when looking at books/eating the tanghulu, she was thrilled and actually happy to speak to me, so I'm taking the trip as a win.

Today, though, I'm feeling the effects. That was a LOT of traveling and walking and my first big outing since surgery. So today is resting. I've turned down a couple of invites from family and am just spending the day in my chair, taking advantage of the back massager function in my recliner, and working on things I can do from here. (Writing, reading, listening to podfic, crafting, chatting with friends, watching TV. Not in that order.)

Helping me edit my podfic last weekend.

I was in a crushingly annoyed mood last night and this morning. I was doing my sister a favor and she piled a couple more on top. I went and had a massage about it (my first since my knee surgery; it was lovely and my massage therapist and I had a fun talk) and my mood improved greatly. I spent the rest of the day at home, mostly reading fic and ignoring my to-do list. I have no regrets.

I was talking to a friend about a side fic I want to write with the gang from the heist fic, inspired by the 2.0 MV (major flashing light warning), where they're changing in an elevator. And for fun, I was kicking around adding the Leverage Korea characters. My friend suggested I podfic it, which would be fun!

I only have 8 days until Baseball Niece turns 11 (which, what, no). I'm making her three plushie/amigurumi things if I can manage them all - I already did a baseball so the hockey puck is next and then Baby Yoda, which hopefully isn't as complicated as it looks. I was going to work on it tonight but as soon as the cat evicts herself I probably need to write and then go to bed.

My podfic is at second beta, lol. Which is really just the same beta listening to it again. I am so grateful for a second pair of ears on this - and when I listened through myself before sending it I was really happy with it. I only read a few lines in it (the section headings and the like) so I'm not surprised out of the story when I hear myself. It's a great story and I think the podfic is turning out well! I'm hoping to post it over the weekend. My next podfic time will be spent on my spikedluv project podfics.

There's another ~~Mystery Box~~ Voiceteam - like a podfic fest - happening in May, and I have to decide in the next couple of days if I want to sign up. I'd love to sign up and just be available for other people's multivoices/do a cover or two, but I know me, and the lure of points may get me to over-commit. Again, lol. But the FOMO! I think the deadline is the 28th, so...I'll decide this weekend.

(This weekend is a bunch of family stuff, so maybe I'll be too busy to do any of these things! We shall see.)

In other news, I'm one scene (ONE SCENE!) away from the end of the heist fic. I have a friend reading it over this week so I can bounce some ideas off her for how the last scene should go. It has to wrap up three romances and two plotlines, so it needs some thought.

Non fandom stuff is kind of stressful. I'm struggling to figure some things out at work, and it has been a really bad pain day yesterday and today. I've been having the worstest time getting a decent night's sleep lately. It doesn't help that I need like 9-10 hours in order to function. And the last two nights I've gotten 9.5 hours of sleep and still been exhausted all afternoon. I have an appointment with my sleep doctor next month, so I just have to do my best til then.

So we shall think about podfic instead. :)

#1: Filed (for an extension on) my taxes. Due to [boring things], I couldn't file on time, but I could at least be sure I wasn't going to get a late payment penalty. We take our wins where we can.

#2: Had an endoscopy AND colonoscopy done. The prep was Not Fun as expected, but the procedures themselves went well. ( brief health results )

#3: Recorded some much-delayed podfic parts for two multivoice fics. The ones I've already done have started to drop, and they're overwhelming my AO3 stats page, lol. I love that podfics are doing so well in this fandom! I still have to edit my own multivoice project. I had hoped to have it to beta this weekend, but Sunday got away from me. It's not due til the 30th, though, so I'm prioritizing it next weekend.

#4: Wrote! I'm working on a Heated Rivalry taxfic. Hands up if you saw THAT coming, lol. I'm also trying to not get TOO distracted by that so I can finish the last scenes of the heist fic. And I'm chatting about the omegaverse fic with my coauthors right now.

#5 Crafted, but only a little. I finished weaving in the ends on the pride blanket and made my last two squares (probably) for the hot air balloon wall hanging. I did *not* start my first FTH embroidery yet. Maybe this week. Maybe this weekend.

Made good progress on the podfic! My script is 46 pages (the fic is less than 5k but very image-heavy) and I'm on page 26. However, it's three chapters and I just finished chapter 2. Hopefully chapter three is just VERY image-heavy. Even if not, it took me probably 3.5 hours to edit the first two chapters, so hopefully it takes the same amount of time or less to finish, especially now that I've found a rhythm.

I don't normally get a beta listener for my podfic, but I did for this one. Gotta make sure I didn't miss anything; I'm checking as I go but it could use an outside ear. I also didn't do much editing beside the basics and I have to decide if I want to go back through and do a more detailed edit or not.

It's a lot more fun than editing a one-voice podfic! I have one file with all the source recordings I got from everyone and one main file I'm building, and I cut and paste from one to the other. It's very much like putting a puzzle together! Especially when the twitter accounts reply to each other/quote each other.

My favorite part so far has been cutting and pasting in the AO3 emails ("Chapter Two: Yuletide").

The fic is supercilious and other english mishaps (Heated Rivalry), and I highly recommend if you like social media fics. I've already done the podfic for the sequel. Obsessed? Slightly.

My other great deadline this month is some work for the ICE OUT fundraiser, due by the end of the month (ahhhhhh). I have some podfic voices to record for three multivoices, and my own multivoice to edit. I just need some time for it - and an hour after work won't cut it. I know myself and I'll just keep going and I'm already struggling to get to bed on time. I'm at the twin's tonight through like noon tomorrow, and then I'm going home (and feeding the offended cat) and I've blocked four straight hours off for editing. That should at least let me know if I'm in trouble or not.

Did I mention I've never done this before? Because I've never done this before! Choices were maaaaaaade.

I need the whole stadium to jump

Crafting: I finished sewing the rows of granny squares together for the pride blanket. I'm in the middle of weaving in the ends. Then it needs to be blocked (for the uninitiated, that's spreading it out, pinning it in place, and getting the yarn damp enough that it stretches to the shape you want it in). I have a little extra work to do on the other crochet piece, which was a blanket but has been shortened into a wall hanging.

I also want to get started on the first of my custom embroidery pieces this week if time allows (it may not).

Taxes: I'm doing three returns for other people this year plus my own, which isn't that big a deal, but time is ticking, and I only started this weekend. I have one almost done except some last questions, one with the client for review, one with a couple hours of work left...and mine. Which I'm actually kind of stressed about. Unusually for me (because of my work situation last year), I have no idea what my tax situation is. I don't like having tax anxiety. Hopefully I can get everyone else's returns done and face down my own.

Writing: Out of 28 scenes in the heist fic, 23 are complete! Two are in progress and three haven't been started. I'm at a point now where I'm filling in and tweaking things a lot, so the word count gets shorter as I jam in a word here and a paragraph there. I looked it up and I started this story in December 2022. It will be HUGE to finish and post this!

Fandom: Still listening to the new BTS album on repeat. Watched the documentary about the making of the album, and I plan to do some reading on it and then rewatch it. I also need to rewatch the concert and there's one big promo thing they did that I want to make sure I catch. And they're doing one (or more????) new episode(s) of their variety show (the bestest vid about it) that has me SUPER excited.

They start their world tour next week (!!!!) (have they slept yet?). I'll be watching the Korean livestreams, the first of which requires me to be up and have my eyes cracked open at 6AM on a Thursday...and then work the entire rest of the day, lolsob. (At least the other two are on weekends so I can go back to bed afterwards.) They're also putting two of the concerts in theaters and my local theater is showing them, so I'm hyped about that.

Short version: the fire hose of content isn't stopping any time soon...

If you were wondering, the pride blanket is actually going to my sister! It's going to be a birthday present for a young queer person of our acquaintance, which is a delight. And the HYYH/hot air balloon blanket is going to strangecobwebs. Who is coming to visit me tomorrow (!!) for the BTS album drop (!!!) and we're going to measure it and decide the best size for it.

Then I'll just be buried in spare granny squares from both blankets. At least some of them will go to a blanket for my cat, who spent the last year sleeping on the squares any chance she got. No idea what I'll do with the rest. People make tote bags out of granny squares, right?

I think I might go back to whales for a bit. I had another charity auction ask if I had anything to donate so I might make another trans pride whale & rainbow pride whale for that if I have time. And I do actually have a BTS-themed etsy store with a friend, but I've never contributed anything other than admin stuff. I might make some purple whales to (gasp!) sell.

I have some other ideas for projects, too. Once I get these blankets off to their rightful owners, the world is my oyster! (Note to self: don't crochet an oyster.)

Thursday shenanigans

Waiting for a state tax department to pick up, so this seems like a good time to update! (ETA: this was several hours ago, whoops. Now I'm waiting for a washing machine to finish because otherwise I have nothing to wear to bed!)

Anyway, I didn't bother posting yesterday because I didn't read anything new this week. I'm at my sister's tonight through Sunday* so I brought a book to read while I'm here. I think it's Ocean's Echo? It's just what was in my bag.

*I'm taking my niece to school in the morning, then working from my sister's living room and then just hanging out and making sure my niece eats and my mom is okay (she's having some health stuff) while my sister is out of town.

I also brought the pride blanket. I have all the horizontal rows done and need to do the vertical rows. I measured it, and it appears to be magically shorter one way all of a sudden? I wonder if I lost two rows somewhere. Ah well, that makes it 4ft x 5ft, which is still perfectly respectable. I measured the other one too, and that is narrower and longer - 28in by 68in - which is what happens when a newbie invents her own pattern, lol. My auction now has a note that I can pull some rows out and shorten it if the recipient wants, in case they want more of a wall hanging. It would make me twinge to pull out some of my work, but whatever's best for the piece! Looking forward to fandomtrumpshate getting up and running: previewing the auction items starts tomorrow night, and the craft bazaar opens for business at the same time. I have nine auctions total between the two.

It's going to snow AGAIN Sunday but theoretically not much, then possibly another storm after that. Took them a hot minute to dig me out from Monday's storm so I would prefer not to be stuck again. I am heartily sick of winter.
