Budget Deckbuilding: Battle Cries

Image

Back in the day, Preconstructed Decks had some weird naming conventions. I mean, “Max Attax” or “Trounce-O-Matic” are prime examples for names that make me scratch my head; and they are from opposite sides of the spectrum, since “Max Attax” clearly goes a beatdown route while “Trounce-O-Matic” does not give me anything to work with at all. Now, Intro Packs are more lazy in general, with random vanilla creatures being included all the time, the first few Intro Packs not even reaching sixty cards to work with, and, as is the case in this article, the deck designers not even coming up with something witty for a name. “Battle Cries” introduces the Battle Cry keyword in a White-Red deck, meaning that this is an Aggro deck at heart. As you will see, there is certainly something going on here, but while there are fleeting moments of brilliance there is still lots of head scratching going on here.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Pokemon ROM Hacks 4

Image

It’s been a while since I last wrote about Pokemon ROM Hacks, with the previous article being released all the way back in March 2025. That does not mean that I am not interested in playing them anymore. In fact, I had a draft sitting around for a long time just waiting for me to finish enough ROM Hacks to actual finish the article. Well, that time has come: “Pokemon ROM Hacks 4” is here, and with it my opinion about another six Pokemon ROM Hacks that I have played over the last few months. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the games I picked pretty much at random, showing that the community has plenty of good ideas when it comes to how Pokemon should be played; which is reassuring during times when Gamefreak comes up with the next stupid idea, like most of the Mega Evolutions they presented. In my opinion, Victreebel did not deserve such a cruel fate; but before I go even more off-topic, here are the six games in this review:

Budget Deckbuilding: Relic Breaker

Image

Do you hate artifacts? Do you want to get rid of the grey menace where it might pop up? Are you considering putting senseless amounts of artifact removal into your deck just in case you might encounter something that you can hit with those cards? Well, good news, because WotC made the Intro Pack for your: “Relic Breaker” is a Red-Green deck that works with the destruction of artifacts, both the opposing ones and your own. Now, I would hardly call the idea of having too much artifact removal a strategy, but the deck designers apparently came to a different conclusion. So, let us see what this deck is supposed to do.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Caravan Sandwitch

Image

Game: Caravan Sandwitch
Developer: Studio Plane Toast
Genre: Adventure Game
Releases: 2024 (Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5, Windows)
Stalk’s Rating: 6/10

Out of the depths of my backlog comes another seemingly random game in form of “Caravan Sandwitch”. I got this one from a Humble Choice some months ago, redeemed the key, and then had it sit on hold; until I needed another game to occupy myself with and thought that this one might do the trick. “Caravan Sandwitch” is certainly interesting for lots of reasons, with Steam reviews and even more so the Steam forums for the game going completely ape-shit about fascism and hate speech, when the product at hand is really an adventure game on a barren planet that use a vehicle as one of the main gameplay gimmicks. Now, there are reasons to the craziness that is happening on Steam and I will scratch the surface of what causes those reactions, but for the most part this is just me talking about a game that I invested twelve hours of my life into. Here are my thoughts on “Caravan Sandwitch”:

Budget Deckbuilding: Phyrexian Poison

Image

I am a simple man when it comes to color combinations in Magic the Gathering. I see Black-Green, I like the deck since I do think that the entire graveyard-filling theme this combo normally goes for is pretty cool to play. However, while “Phyrexian Poison” is a Black-Green deck, it does take a somewhat different direction than your usual Golgari deck; and the name might give you a hint. It is Infect time, placing poison counters on the opponent. This is a crazy strong mechanic as you will see down in the article, so let us see what the deckbuilders managed to do with a deck idea that should honestly built itself.

Stalk’s Videogame Corner: Nice Day for Fishing

Image

Game: Nice Day for Fishing
Developer:
 FusionPlay
Genre: Role-Playing Game
Releases: 2025 (Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5, Windows, Xbox X/S)
Stalk’s Rating: 5/10

Humble Choice is still a thing in 2026, so getting seemingly random games to write about is a trend that will continue with into the future. The candidate for today’s article is “Nice Day for Fishing”, which is the gamified version of the skits from Viva La Dirt League, a group of people making videos about their role-playing adventures and the idea of having an NPC being somewhat self-aware in an MMORPG. I have seen some of their videos on random occasions browsing Youtube because the algorithm seemed to think that it would be content that is up my alley, and for the most part what I have seen was funny but not to the point of following the channel to get more; sorry, fans of VLDL. However, I have now a role-playing game about fishing potentially infused with the same type of humor, so let us see if it can deliver.

Budget Deckbuilding: Myr of Mirrodin

Image

Another Wednesday, another Intro Pack to look at. This time, we have one of the most flavorful creature types of Mirrodin being featured in form of the small artifact servant race called the Myr. They are mostly known to be small creatures and often associated with producing mana, but WotC definitely gave those guys some tools to make an interesting deck in general. Now, whether “Myr of Mirrodin”, this week’s deck, actually manages to rise to the occasion remains to be seen. However, seeing that this deck is listed as being mono-White, there is definitely something interesting hiding in the box. Let’s find out more in the article below.
