Inspiration
Most modern applications and financial products are catered to the 'younger' crowd, leaving people in their advanced age behind. In the complex and ever changing world of financial products, this user group is left confused, without much help.
What it does
Basil compares financial products from various providers and presents them in a clear and readable fashion, using simple to understand graphical charts. It employs Artificial Intelligence to help users sift through volumes of marketing content to identify the relevant information.
How we built it
We built Basil using Even Financials API and AWS Comprehend and AWS Lambda. The application is developed in React JS and styled with Material UI.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges with integrating the Even Financial API. There were some issues with the API key, as well as the data returned was limited.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For half of our team, this was the first hackathon ever! We're also proud of putting together various front end and cloud technologies together.
What we learned
We also learned not to touch each others computer screens.
What's next for Basil (not Mint)
- A/B testing of usability features for the target user group - determine what graphical components represent the data best
- Use IBM Connect's Content Simplifier to further analyze marketing information from financial providers
- Further the use of Artificial Intelligence to provide predictive analytics around financial outcomes
- Utilize the camera for sentiment/emotional analysis to detect user confusion and simplify content/presentation form
- Add Alexa skill to let users communicate with the product via voice
