Inspiration:
BeatMatch draws inspiration from the dynamic fusion of physical activity and music engagement, envisioning an immersive experience where users' body movements synchronize with the rhythm of enjoyable tunes. Inspired by the desire to blend the worlds of gaming and personalized music playlists, the project seeks to create an innovative and energetic way for users to control gameplay through their body motion, generating a personalized soundtrack that mirrors the intensity of their physical activity. The concept is driven by the idea that the synergy between motion-controlled gaming and music with matching BPM can elevate the user's experience, providing a unique and entertaining way to seamlessly blend physical fitness, gaming, and music curation.
What it does:
Our project BeatMatch is able to track the user's movement using a computer camera and attaching the movement to a video so you can use your body to control a game of your choice. It also analyzes the speed your body is moving in BPM and gives you a random song from Spotify that matches your energy and at the end of the program compiles all the songs that were given to you.
How we built it:
Initially, we developed the body controller, and to infuse a unique touch into the project, we crafted an algorithm capable of calculating the average BPM based on user movements. Subsequently, we harnessed this BPM data to create a custom Spotify API integration, recommending a random song tailored to the user's movement tempo. This innovative approach not only allowed for dynamic song recommendations but also facilitated the automatic generation of playlists featuring multiple tracks harmonizing with the calculated BPM.
Challenges we ran into:
Navigating the challenge of finding a unique niche for body-controlled gaming, our team encountered the need to distinguish BeatMatch from existing solutions. The exploration led us to the realization that leveraging the synergy between body movement and music intensity offered an unexplored avenue. Overcoming the challenge involved innovative thinking to conceptualize a novel fusion of physical activity and personalized music selection, thereby providing users with a distinct and engaging gameplay experience that sets BeatMatch apart in the realm of interactive entertainment.

Our team takes pride in implementing the Spotify API into BeatMatch, enabling users to access an extensive library of songs and enhancing the personalized music pairing experience. Leveraging the Spotify API not only broadened our project's musical repertoire but also provided a platform for users to curate soundtracks that perfectly matched their energy and gameplay preferences.
What we learned:
Throughout the process, we gained valuable insights into user preferences, emphasizing the need for an intuitive interface and personalized features to enhance engagement. Amidst unforeseen challenges, the innovative concept of synchronizing body movement with music emerged, showcasing the power of creative problem-solving in shaping a distinctive and immersive gaming experience.
What's next for BeatMatch:
Incorporate performance metrics and analytics to provide users with insights into their physical activity, such as calories burned or duration of exercise. This can add a fitness tracking element to the gaming experience.
