Inspiration

Often we hear our parents or grandparents asking for help when it comes to the use of technology. This app fights to diminish that and help them become more capable and independent. We made BinaryLingo to encourage older people to learn how to use technology.

What it does

BinaryLingo offers short lessons starting from the very basics of what a computer is, and slowly moves on through more complex topics. At the end of each lesson, there is a short multiple-choice quiz to test the user's knowledge. We value simplicity to ensure that everyone that opens the app can follow along without trouble, to promote inclusion and accessibility in technology and reduce barriers to learning technology.

How we built it

Built using Flutter

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges was actually learning how to use it to develop the application. Another challenge was trying to implement a backend, since none of us had worked with it before. We experimented with CockroachDB to store user data, but had trouble connecting it with the frontend due to time constraints and a lack of team members and experience. In the future, we will be adding a user database and additional interactive lessons to cover the full scope of teaching everyone how to use a computer, making technology more accessible for all.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning and using Flutter, creating designs and UI

What we learned

How to use Flutter, how to initialize a database with CockroachDB

What's next for BinaryLingo

More lessons and quizzes, updates on UI, making it more accessible all users, making it more interactive
