Inspiration
We wanted to turn the Internet from the Wild Wild West back to the World Wide Web.
What it does
When a webpage contains a word on your blacklist, it will show the user a popup warning them about the contents of the site.
How we built it
We made our program into a Chrome extension to be compatible on any platform. We used Chrome Storage Sync to store the block list client-side.
Challenges we ran into
Most of our team members were novices and very little experience with web development. It was also difficult to accomplish some JavaScript tasks.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a simplistic website for the first time and a chrome extension for the first time.
What we learned
Bill and Joey learned basic front-end, Feng and Samyar learned how to make a minimal chrome extension.
What's next for Blocklist
We want to implement warnings for the visually impaired using the internet to make it safer for everyone.
