Inspiration

The inspiration for MatchMyCareer started after listening to the feedback of students and recruiters who attended virtual career fairs during the Fall Semester. The overall consensus was that the process was a lot less enjoyable and felt impersonal. MatchMyCareer strives to fix that!

What it does

The MatchMyCareer site allows for recruiters and students to attend virtual career fairs hosted by universities. Students will be able to view upcoming fairs, the employers who will be attending, and what open positions those recruiters will be looking to fill. They will be able to favorite companies in order to clearly identify which companies they would like to speak to on the day of the virtual fair. On the day of the fair, students will be able to select an employer's queue in order to speak to a recruiter. Once there is a student in their queue, the recruiter will be able to meet with each one in a one-on-one video call.

How we built it

The app was built using React, Firebase, Dolby.io's Interactive APIs.

Challenges we ran into

We had an issue where we could not connect a student to a recruiter's video session.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This application was a lot to take on in a short time, so in order to submit this is a big accomplishment.

What we learned

We learned to implement Dolby.io's Interactive APIs into a React application and to develop a Python module to search using keywords and rank the candidates based on the match with the job description.

What's next for MatchMyCareer

Going forward, MatchMyCareer could be expanded by adding additional features. That would include the ability for the recruiter to view the resume of the student they are speaking to, the integration of a resume filtering script, and the ability for there to be multiple recruiters assigned to a queue.
