Inspiration

While getting to know everyone on our team we discovered a painstaking similarity. We craved more diversity in meals despite the restrictions each of us face when looking for places to eat. Another similarity we discovered is difficulty when traveling abroad and finding restaurants and meals where you can easily understand what you're ordering. Often times in foreign countries meals on the menu will only feature a picture of the meal or will be in a different language. When trying to eat within dietary restrictions it can be alarming when the certainty of you meal meeting those restrictions falls any bit below 100%. We all took a moment to wonder how nice it would be to have an application that looks at your current location and based on your dietary restriction supplies a list of not only restaurants that meet those requirements, but the meals and ingredients in each. In doing so, we would never worry about ordering a meal we could not eat or going to a restaurant with only one meal option. From there we also discovered each of us had plans to travel with friends that were never brought to fruition due to the complexity of having to get each individual's plans and having to remember and work around those plans. Together we had a lightbulb moment where we decided we wanted to have an app that does it all and makes traveling with friends easy. We worked tirelessly to create a working prototype for the UI design of an app that allows for a daily itinerary, a wallet full of different tickets you can share, a shared packing list, a shared calendar, nearby accommodation, the optimal form of transit based on your preferred method of transportation, the ability to plan a new trip, and most importantly food options within your diet restrictions near you. All in all we wanted a way to get up, get out, and go adventure.

What it does

We developed a wireframe for a mobile app that allows users to collaborate in planning vacations by coordinating transportation, accommodation, food options, picture sharing, and more.

How we built it

We used a wireframe program called figma to map out and build a prototype for our application.

Challenges we ran into

For each member in our team, this was our first hackathon and all of us are freshman. None of us have any high level coding experience and decided the optimal project based on our shared knowledge was to create a wireframe. However, none of us have ever created a wireframe or used figma before. Despite only having 24 hours we started from square one and used a multitude of resources to gain understanding of how to design a User Interface and how to use figma to do so.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team we are proud of our app being fully interactive and how the smallest details lead to a multitude of actions. Every element seen on the screen has a purpose, whether that is aesthetically or practically. We are proud of our hard work in not only building our application, but taking the time to learn and sharpen a new skill. Each member took the time to learn a new element and teach each other member what they had just learnt. Overall, despite all our setbacks we are so proud of how much progress each of us has made.

What we learned

As a team we learnt how to design a wireframe UI and use figma. We learnt how to work together as a team to create a collaborative environment that included everyone's ideas and made sure we all came out proud of our efforts.

What's next for BuddyBound

We would like to expand on the features we did not have enough time for and learn how to add back-end coding to make our application more user friendly.
