Inspiration
Nuisance phone calls while I'm trying to work at home.
And now that we're ALL working at home, Call Handler is a priceless productivity tool. It started as a bit of fun, but it's a great stress reliever, so great for your mental health! Try it and you'll see why.
What it does
Next time you receive a nuisance phone call, don't get stressed. Just launch Call Handler and put the phone down near your smart speaker. Alexa will play a long and friendly (but firm!) rejection message while you walk away smiling.
Your caller will terminate the call eventually, but not before Alexa has kept them on the line just a little longer than necessary. Consider it a public service.
How I built it
NodeJS and self-hosted Lambda, using VSCode and the ASK CLI
Challenges I ran into
Learning APLA... it's slightly different than APL but I love it!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
With just a few audio tracks and story texts, I'm able to generate literally thousands of unique responses using APLA so there's always something fresh.
What I learned
A bit more about mixing audio, and filters. Looking forward to more filters, like ducking (PLEASE!) which would be perfect for generated voice-overs.
What's next for Call Handler
More content, managed in a CMS and curated where possible.
