Inspiration:
We found the JPMorgan Social Media Challenge to be meaningful due to the recent tragic events such as Hurricane Harvey. Therefore, we wanted to build a social platform that would connect and unite a community in need.
What it does:
It connects people who are ready to donate products and people who are in need of these products.
How we built it:
We built our project on the ASP.NET framework. We used a SQL Database to interact with users' information. Finally, for the front-end, we relied on HTML, CSS and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
We initially struggled to understand how the ASP.NET framework worked. Using online resources, we were able to overcome these challenges. Many of us were first-timers with HTML and CSS, and we all worked together to overcome initial struggles to understand the complexities of the organization of and interaction between CSS, HTML, and JavaScript elements of the front end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the way that we all worked together to tie together different ideas and take advantage of unique skillsets that each individual team member had to offer.
What we learned
We learned that it is possible to learn a lot in a short amount of time.
What's next for Care Pair
We are hoping to add in an option for those in need to specify how urgent their request for food/water/toiletries/medical supplies is. We began implementing this feature on the back end but did not have time to effectively link the front end and back end. We plan to continue working on this so that those who donate are willing to donate are first matched with those in need who indicate the highest level of priority.
