The inspiration for Chico stemmed from the desire to simplify and personalize the way individuals select their daily outfits. Recognizing the challenge of visualizing and piecing together outfits from a vast wardrobe or online catalog, we set out to create a solution that not only aids in decision-making but also introduces users to styles and combinations they might not have considered. Chico serves as a one-stop solution that leverages ongoing fashion trends to connect customers with local businesses. By incorporating current trends, the platform facilitates a dynamic and supportive ecosystem where users can discover and engage with offerings from local fashion businesses.

What it does

Chico leverages the power of AI to provide a personalized fashion experience. Users upload images of clothing items, and our platform uses cutting-edge image processing technologies to analyze these items, suggest complete outfits, and offer shopping recommendations from local businesses. This not only simplifies outfit planning but also helps users discover new trends and style their existing wardrobe in novel ways.

How we built it

Frontend Magic: We built a sleek, intuitive user interface with React, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for our users.
AI-Powered Analysis: For the backbone of our image analysis, we utilized ml5.js, a friendly machine learning library for the web, enabling us to process images directly within the browser. This approach made our platform more accessible and faster, without heavy backend processing.
Textual Insights with Cohere: To enhance our AI's understanding of fashion, we integrated Cohere's natural language processing capabilities. Once ml5.js identifies key elements of the uploaded images, Cohere helps translate these visual cues into rich, descriptive fashion insights and recommendations.
Seamless Integration: We bridged our frontend with the AI processing seamlessly, using the power of Next.js for smooth data flow and efficient API management.

Challenges We Faced

AI Precision: Tuning ml5.js to accurately recognize and categorize diverse fashion items was a significant challenge, demanding extensive testing and refinement.
Seamless AI Integration: Creating a fluid integration between ml5.js's image processing and Cohere's text analysis required innovative problem-solving to ensure a coherent output that accurately represents the fashion items.
