Inspiration

I (Atharva Kulkarni) have been constantly active in volunteering and truly enjoy helping others. Recently, I led an event in my community where we packed survival kits for the homeless. I had a lot of joy coming out of that event and wanted to continue this through my love for computer science. That's where I got the idea to build CircleMarket Development.

What it does

Our platform empowers individuals to transform discarded items into valuable upcycled projects, such as clothes and toys. Users showcase their creations, which can be requested as donations by those in need, fostering a community centered on sustainability, creativity, and the responsible reuse of resources.

How we built it

Our application uses swelte js, html, and tailwind css for our frontend. This took care of the aesthetic and looks of our pages. However, to store our user information, we used django for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

It was really difficult to store the user info (user id, password, and email) into the database. However, with a lot of tinkering and stabilizing we were eventually able to fix it

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud of the database and the search feature. It took us a decent amount of time to fix them and it makes the website much more interactive rather than just static.

What we learned

Mentioned in the video, but we learnt a lot about the slevte js framework and backend. Aside from technical skills, we gained a lot of communicative skills as we were in separate time zones and had to collaborate effectively to finish our project on time. One of the group members also had never worked in a team before so that was a great experience for him.

What's next for CircleMarket Development

Also mentioned in the video. We plan on connecting with local charities so that they can expand the outreach of our program so that more people can be benefitted from our application. Additionally, we would also love to host events so that local communities can get together and teach each other new skills while also helping others. Lastly, we also want to create a tutorial and forum section for beginners to upscaling and those who may be strugging.
