Inspiration

The game design of Clickpocalypse is inspired by Asteroids and osu!, and the UI is inspired by the ChaosHacks theme.

What it does

Clickpocalypse is a visually chaotic game where the user must destroy the projectiles before they hit the Little Silly Guy in the middle. Upon impact, the projectiles will become more and more chaotic, eventually turning into an Clickpocalypse.

The user's overall progress will be tracked on a point system which goes up as they click more projectiles. The health bar also indicates stability. The health bar decreases when the Little Silly Guy is hit, and the game becomes more chaotic. The player can regenerate Little Silly Guy's health by destroying projectiles and thus restoring stability.

How we built it

To make this game, we used the Unity engine and programmed the scripts in C#. The visuals were made in Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble setting up a GitHub repository with Unity, and it took us a couple hours to fix it. Additionally, we also started off with lots of merge conflicts, until we figured out who was working on what scripts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We started this hackathon with over half the team having never used Unity before, and two first-time hackers. By the end of the hackathon, each member earned valuable skills, from learning how to use Unity and C#, GitHub, debugging, and overall cohesive team work. In particular, the merge conflicts created a lot of frustration, but we were able to overcome them which greatly boosted team morale. Despite entering this hackathon chaotically with different skillsets and specialties, we are leaving with control and pride for our project.

What we learned

We were able to teach each other various aspects of coding. We also taught ourselves various aspects of visual design, and sound design. Additionally, we were able to teach ourselves aspects of Unity and game design. Beyond technical skills, we've improved our collaborative work.

What's next for Clickpocalypse

We hope to incorporate more music, having the projectiles spawn on the screen on beat. We would also like to improve the UI by adding more particle and glitching effects. Maybe one day it could even be greenlit on Steam! 😌
