Clima-pal | Devpost

Inspiration

The Clima-Pal project is a group collaboration to both test ourselves in our application making skillset as well as our desire to create a more fulfilling battle against climate change. With a wide range of individuals in the group ranging from software engineers, teachers, and marketing strategists, we felt like this app challenge was the best way to tie all of our lives together. We began by breaking down what we could do as people to combat climate change. As much as we think it is beneficial to look at all the emission-based data available to us and have that reported back to anyone using Monday, we thought that was something a majority of people would be doing.

Realizing this, we jokingly suggested gamifying climate change. Discussing as a team, we decided that this was going to be an ironically fun way to encourage more people to look at climate change in an everyday lens.

What it does

Using the toolkit for Monday.com applications, we were able to create an app where users could participate in challenges that they could monitor over time. Once completed, users could then see their progress and earn progression that signify completion and doing a good job. At the same time, users can also get motivated with a rotation of facts and quotes regarding climate change.

How we built it

The widget was built with React.js, the mondaySDK, and uses the Monday VIBE design system for a few components.

Our API was built using Express.js and Mongo DB, and the infrastructure is managed by Railway.app

Challenges we ran into

We started this challenge pretty late into the hackathon, so time was a huge factor for us (Though, that is our own fault).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is the team's first time building an app for the Monday ecosystem and our dev was happy to run into little/no friction with building the app.

What's next for Clima-pal

We plan on expanding the challenge formats for Clima-pal to include more fun types of challenges like a "wordle-esque" format or integrate challenges with 3rd party APIs to make completing challenges for seamless.
