Inspiration

Personal color analyses are typically done as part of paid, in-person beauty consultations which can be inconvenient or even out of reach for some people. We believe these services should be more readily available as they can greatly help clients discover their own sense of personal branding and boost their self-esteem, which is why we have created ColorCompass.

What it does

Struggling to find your style? Not sure what colours fit you? We’ve been there, and we’re here to help. ColourCompass will do the colour theory for you; we analyze the undertones of your hair, skin, and eyes to determine which seasonal palette best compliments your natural features. Explore and expand your style, and boost your confidence with our Colour Picker today. You’ll never feel out of your element again!

How we built it

We used squarespace to build our frontend and display of our website We then used MERN to build our backend

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble connecting backend to frontend We weren’t able to completely finish our backend in time We couldn’t integrate AI into our website due to budget constraints

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As first-years, we’re proud to be able to completely finish our frontend, though our backend still has some work to do We’re proud to be able to finish a large part of this project in less than a day and a half

What's next for ColourCompass

Increased emphasis on user experience and convenience (uploading pictures / automatic color to hex code converter, camera calibration, etc.) Increased accessibility features (e.g. shapes for the colourblind, audio options for the visually impaired, optimization across numerous platforms, language translation features, etc.)) Increased features for better colour analysis accuracy (incorporate hair/eye colour inputs, suggest clothing/accessory/makeup items matching their colour season, etc.)
