Inspiration
The news in Latin america has government controlled news, a large amount of crime and violence is not reported about. Because of this we wanted to make a app that would inform people of violence happening in their area, so that they can stay safe.
What it does
Our app takes a live stream of tweets on key words, and parse the tweet for an address or cross street. We then hit the google maps api to find the location and post it to our page. Additional it posts it to a slack bot that can be queried for the last 5 events.
What's next for Crime Crow
We want to improve the address recognition because some tweets have to be imputed by hand. Also we want the app to send notifications to people over a messaging service such as WhatsApp.
