Inspiration
As a immigrant, I saw first hand how people with different cultures can be insolation in a new country; my parents immigrated from China, but since there was no website for culture and connecting with the Asian community, my parents had to celebrate the Chinese New Year by themselves. Therefore, we as a team decided to build a solution to this problem.
What it does
This a place where people can sign up and be connected with those in the same minority in that person's community. Once they have created a account, they can post about stories of their culture, receipts of their food back home.
How we built it
Our tech stack is a blend of modern and efficient technologies designed to offer a seamless user experience. The backend is powered by Flask, providing a robust and scalable framework, while MongoDB serves as our database, ensuring flexibility and high performance. To maintain a respectful and safe environment, we've integrated Cohere's API, which moderates content and filters out hate speech, ensuring CultureLink remains a platform of positivity and inclusivity.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't know what what language to use for the frontend, and once, we choose our language. In addition, we had alot of problems with the front end not working or not running.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully creating a welcoming and user-friendly platform that caters to diverse cultural communities.
- Implementing advanced moderation features to ensure a safe space for all users.
Establishing a scalable architecture that can grow with our user base.
What we learned
This project was a profound learning experience, teaching us not only about the intricacies of web development but also the importance of cultural sensitivity and community. We've honed our skills in full-stack development, API integration, and user experience design, all while gaining insights into the diverse tapestry of cultures that enrich our world.

Looking ahead, we envision CultureLink evolving into a global platform that serves diverse communities around the world. Our roadmap includes:
