This project submission is for the Health Track!

Inspiration

The spark that ignited the creation of "dAIet" was born from personal struggles and shared frustrations within my circle of friends regarding dieting and meal planning. It became apparent that despite a wealth of dietary information and recipe resources available, there was a significant gap in personalized guidance that could adapt to individual preferences, dietary restrictions, and available ingredients. This collective yearning for a smarter, more intuitive approach to diet management led to the conceptualization of "dAIet" – an app that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to transform the everyday challenge of healthy eating into an effortless and personalized journey. Our goal was to create not just an app, but a companion that understands the unique dietary needs and lifestyle of each user, making healthy eating a seamless part of daily life.

What it does

dAIet is an innovative app that revolutionizes meal planning and nutritional tracking by leveraging artificial intelligence. Users simply input their dietary preferences, restrictions, and goals, along with available ingredients. dAIet then generates nutritious and delicious recipes tailored to individual needs, calculates daily caloric intake, and offers suggestions to keep users on track towards their health goals. dAIet also allows users to talk with our AI Chatbot, educating users on nutritional content, helping them make informed food and exercise choices.

How we built it

I built "dAIet" using Flutter for a seamless cross-platform experience, ensuring accessibility for both iOS and Android users. The core functionality is powered by integrating with Google's Bard API for natural language processing, enabling the app to understand user inputs and generate creative, personalized recipe suggestions. We employed a user-centric design approach, focusing on simplicity and intuitiveness to ensure a hassle-free user experience. The development process involved iterative testing, incorporating user feedback to refine features and usability.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge I ran into was that I originally using OpenAI's API. However, it was actually down when I tried to use it. Thus, I had to scramble to find an alternative. However, I ended up finding Google's Bard API, which did the trick!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of finishing the project in such a short amount of time. I am also proud of utilizing AI in my project, especially the fact that I integrating two different AIs (the chatbot and the recipe maker). I am also proud of my front end design work, as I mostly work on back end projects!

What we learned

Throughout this project, I gained invaluable insights into leveraging AI for practical, everyday applications. We learned the importance of user experience design in creating engaging, easy-to-use digital health-centric tools. The project also deepened our understanding of nutritional science and the complexities of dietary planning.

What's next for dAIet

In the near future, I hope to enhance dAIet's features, such as being able to add multiple recipes and view them, for example. I also hope to add user authentication and being able to track your caloric intake day-to-day.

Looking forward, I aim to incorporate more advanced AI features, such as image recognition, allowing users to upload pictures of their pantry items to suggest recipes. I plan to enhance the app's social features, enabling users to share recipes and tips within the community. Expanding our database to include a wider variety of dietary preferences and restrictions will make dAIet even more inclusive. Ultimately, we envision dAIet becoming a holistic dietary companion, supporting users not just in meal planning but in achieving their overall health and wellness goals.
