Inspiration

During this pandemic, we’ve realized how important exercise is in our self-care routine. Since we can’t go to the gym, we’ve watched YouTube videos and tried out different apps. We noticed that all female fitness apps only emphasized large butts, a flat stomach, and losing weight when we know that exercise is more than a physical transformation, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual. That’s why we built Daze, a true female-empowerment fitness app that prioritizes your mental health and self-esteem over your weight, abs, and butt.

What it does

Daze is a web app that allows you to choose weekly goals of relieving stress, boosting your confidence, or gaining more energy (notice we don’t offer any goals of losing weight). You can then plan your workouts for each day from a curated collection from Daze of the top female instructors on YouTube. Daze also emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and mental health, which is why we have an in-app journal that uses Google Cloud Natural Language Processing to analyze the sentiments of your journals to give you words of encouragement and track your progress in mood and emotions as you continue with Daze. Daze also allows you to share your progress with your friends to encourage them to work out for the sake of inner and outer transformation!

How we built it

We used Gatsby to mimic as much of an app-experience as possible on our website. We also used Google Cloud's NLP API.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the radio buttons to work on the goal selection page was way harder than we thought.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're super proud of building something that we would actually use in our daily workout routine!

What's next for Daze

Exclusive fitness classes that allow you to support female instructors who embody Daze's mission of encouragement, transformation, and empowerment!
