Inspiration
Searching for posts on Reddit and Facebook is difficult. We wanted to change that. Clear and easy categories to search by. Filters on filters on filters to drill down into specific categories. _ For example, _ you need a **fullstack developer based in Vancouver interested in working on a dApp. I would make a post and put those specific tags on my post. Now me, a fullstack developer based in Vancouver looking to work on a dApp, who has subscribed to these tags, would receive a notification letting me know a post that interests me is up. When I browse the site, I can select and deselect tags to view posts by.
What it does
Creates an online community for folks to developers to get together and post whatever they wish and connect with one another.
How we built it
We basically built a dumbed down version of Reddit. We used an Amazon Serverless Stack (super great guide out there on this). Lambda functions combined with DynamoDB, Cognito for auth. Our front-end is some beautifully bootstrapped React.
Challenges we ran into
Well, we didn't know much React, and certainly didn't know a thing about serverless / lambda functions before this. There were challenges presented in dataflow and user management, as well as some database related decisions to be made here and there.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We set out with a goal of learning, specifically getting our React skills up and learning more about AWS's capabilities. The project we are leaving with is pretty close to where we wanted it to be, definitely further along than we expected. With a little more work, we could actually have a fleshed out beta-release ready platform. That's something we're proud to have done in less than 24 hours.
