Inspiration
Tech solutions are mostly tackling the grand challenges faced by the majority of the population, challenges faced by underrepresented populations are often neglected and receiving less attention.
In light of this, we would like to help the underrepresented populations to tackle their challenges by building an accessible reporting system (via programmed phone calls to tackle the digital divide), and displaying the collected information, the challenges, in a web app for hackers/ founders to tackle.
What it does:
Features
Programmed phone call gathering challenges faced by underrepresented populations
Collected data display in the web app in categories
Hackers/ founders who are looking for inspiration can browse and take up a challenge
Testing
Call +18563419062
Tip: you can call international numbers for free with Google Hangouts :D
How we built it
Interactive Voice Response using Twilio
Front-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js
Back-end development using Firebase
Challenges we ran into
We are an international team with 3 different timezones, not all developers are awake at the same time. We overcame this challenge with effective communication and planning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a functional prototype!
What we learned
We learned a lot about using DialogFlow and the Twilio API for chatbot development and integrating the chatbot and web app into the backend.
What's next for Diverzity
Sort challenges by frequency of keywords
Allow users in the web app to build teams and set up a project page
Opt-in for underrepresented populations to provide a contact for follow-up questions (and mask phone numbers for security)
