Inspiration:

Information regarding legislation that is actively affecting or can affect reproductive rights as well as resources relating to it is not easily accessible. Usually, this information cannot be found in a simple google search since it often gets political and buried in noise. This impacts a widespread amount of people as seen that 1/4 of women receive an abortion, but due to the rapidly changing times, information and legislation can be rewritten at any moment. This makes doe essential as it is an easy way to stay informed and updated.

What it does:

doe. finds legislation that is currently affecting or could affect reproductive rights and summarizes the information to present it to the user. It also presents options to terminate a pregnancy based off of the user’s state’s legislation.

Features

Corkboard: Any law or legislation a user might find relevant, particularly resonating, or would like to revisit is able to be pinned, which will arrive at your corkboard on the landing page.

Legislation: The legislation tab is state-specific, with simplified laws and legislation regarding reproductive health, with it currently being set to Virginia via a drop-down selected by the user. The user can select a legislation that they would like to learn more about to see more information about it and pin it for their corkboard. Based on state legislation, there is information and a simplified form for legally and safely terminating a pregnancy at the bottom of the page.

Resources: The resources tab spotlights three main types: financial, legal, and well-being resources aimed to support best those who choose to terminate a pregnancy.

Challenges we ran into: Finding ways to remain bipartisan in order to give unbiased information in a controversial field. Simplifying information from state legislation websites that are not user friendly One of the original functions of the app was to be able to filter out bills by using keywords that would be related to reproductive health. However, due to how the government website’s security features, we were not able to implement this idea

Accomplishments

Implementing design practices (i.e. auto layout and creating our own design system) that allow for a streamlined and adaptable process. We were able to make a backend program that website scrapes relevant information and summarizes it in understandable terms.
