Inspiration
A curriosity for developing Alexa skills and the hope to bring more convenience to the CMU dinning experience.
What it does
Alexa will tell you if your favorite campus dinning restaurant is open before you head out to find out it's closed.
How we built it
We are hosting our JavaScript code on Amazon Web Services (AWS). As our main hardware platform, the Amazon Echo serves as a middleman between our voice control and the code. Our data comes from the ScottyLabs CMU Dinning API.
Challenges we ran into
Since Amazon Echo currently only supports English and German it is sometimes difficult to ask for information about restuarants named in other languages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a popular and convenient CMU dinning app even more convenient.
What we learned
How to develop skills for Amazon Alexa, JavaScript, how to host code online
What's next for EchoEats
The hope for the near future is to be able to order food from popular off campus restaurants and services such as Vocielli's Pizza and GrubHub.
Prizes we are aiming for
Student Senate's Social Impact Prize APT Social Impact Prize Google's Social Impact Prize
