Inspiration

Echohacks is inspired by Reddit, Hacker News and YikYak.

What it does

EchoHacks is a cutting-edge SSH-based application that empowers hackathon participants by providing a collaborative platform for sharing and evaluating ideas. Inspired by Reddit and Hacker News, EchoHacks allows users to submit hackathon concepts and express their support through upvotes and downvotes. The application features a terminal interface built with the Bubble Tea framework, ensuring a smooth and engaging user experience with real-time feedback on idea popularity.

How we built it

  • Programming Language: Go
  • Framework: Bubble Tea for terminal-based UI
  • Database: modernc.org/sqlite for data management
  • SSH Handling: Charmbracelet's Wish framework for managing SSH sessions
  • Styling: Lipgloss for enhanced terminal aesthetics

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges that we ran into was getting the UI and database to sync while still preventing the user from rating the posts multiple times.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're super proud of how quickly we built this! This project was the result of a scrap and pivot from our original hackathon idea. The entire app was build in the time between ~11 am and was finished at around 5am.

What we learned

That you don't really need a massive project or massive idea or massive tech stack to have fun. As long as you find the idea interesting enough to vibe on it and you don't hate your architecture decisions you can just have fun programming.

What's next for EchoHacks

We probably will try to really spend time to deploy this and get the database 100% nailed down so we can get rid of those last minute bugs.
