Inspiration

We saw that people weren't recycling properly in our community, many things that could be recycled ended up in landfills adding to the already polluted world. We knew something needed to bring awareness about this in our community in a fun and engaging way.

What it does

When users create an account they are able to post a picture about the trash they recycled, or other ways they've lived a sustainable life. Posting pictures awards points that can then be redeemed, incentivizing wise choices from users.

How we built it

Frontend was done using SceneBuilder and JavaFX, backend was done using Java. To show the UX/UI of the product, Figma was incorporated to gain a better visualization

Challenges we ran into

Finding the minimum viable product to create and what features would have to be cut out, we had trouble working with frameworks such as spring boot, as well creating features in JavaFX such as leaderboards for points.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting the website coded and running was our biggest achievement as none of us ever created a project of this scale. Creating a prototype that looks attractive was also something we're very proud of.

What we learned

We learned how to take a large complex problem, and turn into smaller problems and simplify them into a minimum viable product. We also learned techniques and skills when it comes to web development such as frameworks such as spring boot, and javaFX.

What's next for EcoFlick

Whats next is that we want to implement features that we had to omit due to time constraints this hackathon, such as a backend server for hosting post data, the points and rewards system, and further improving the UI/UX of the website.
