Inspiration

Our inspiration for EconHealth came from a desire to create an accessible and easy-to-use AI assistant that could help people of all income levels better understand and manage their healthcare and finances. We wanted to build a tool that’s simple, clear, and supportive — especially for individuals navigating medical and financial challenges.

What it does

EconHealth is a web-based medical fintech assistant designed to help users in health-related “crisis states.” These crises aren’t limited to medical emergencies like “I’m bleeding,” but also include practical, real-world challenges such as understanding or managing medical bills.

Users can upload their own medical bills, which the system analyzes to extract key information — without saving any personal data afterward. The chatbot also answers financial questions, provides recommendations, and offers pre-set question options that users can click through for a guided experience.

How We Built

The frontend was developed using React and styled with Tailwind CSS. We used Figma to design and plan the website’s layout. On the backend, we integrated the Snowflake API to handle bill analysis — generating insights, recommendations, and educational resources tailored to the user’s needs.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges as most of us are predominately front-end based programmers. Using API's and the process of making a chatbot was incredibly new for the entire team. We knew nothing about backend and a lot of the things we used in the project we had little to no experience at all with. So we went through many roadblocks which resulted often in us having to restart the project right to the beginning. But we managed to pull through despite the technical difficulties and trials and errors throughout.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re incredibly proud of creating something entirely new to us — both technically and conceptually. Despite our limited experience, we managed to produce a functioning, meaningful product. The process taught us resilience, teamwork, and adaptability, and we’re proud of what we accomplished together.

What we learned

Our team gained valuable experience in multiple areas. We deepened our knowledge of React and Tailwind CSS, explored backend development for the first time, and learned how to integrate and work with Snowflake. Each team member walked away with new skills and a stronger understanding of how different technologies come together to create a complete product.

What's next for EconHealth

We plan to continue developing and refining EconHealth’s AI to make it even more accessible and intuitive. Our goal is to ensure it can effectively support people from all financial backgrounds — including families and college students managing medical expenses for the first time. We want EconHealth to be a reliable, empathetic, and easy-to-understand resource for everyone.
