Inspiration
As students there's always been a class where a professor is flying through complex ideas and we're given the dilemma of creating detailed notes that we don't understand or understanding the concepts at hand but have no notes to review later. That's why we wanted to create a solution for all students that the's best of both worlds.
What it does
Our extension has two main functionalities, autocomplete and revise. The autocomplete tries to predict a user's notes and creates suggestions to complete it for them, saving valuable time. The revision functionality on the other hand takes the keywords from the user's notes and turn them into full sentences that clearly explain the concept while the user continues to type new notes.
How we built it
By integrating Google Apps Script and Gemini API in the backend we were able to build this Google Docs Extension that works in Realtime on the user's Google Doc
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of key challenges with the front end, especially understanding all the documentation to use Google Workspaces and Google Apps Script
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that we were about to get this extension working with both the autocorrect feature being quick and accurate and the revision feature working exceptionally well.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how the Google Gemini API works and how to integrate the API into the backend as well as how to create a Google Docs Extension with Google Apps Script.
What's next for EmberComplete
We hope to rigorously test EmberComplete on a variety of examples and expand our proof of concept into an actual product that users could use in their Google Docs.
