Inspiration
There are many stories where people don't get immediate emergency care when they need it. This is due to cell phones not being accurate when sending one's location. We hope to change the lives of many using cell phones, which most people have.
What it does
An emergency app that allows users to instantly send a distress call to the nearest emergency services along with the user's medical information and location. It allows first respondents to act efficiently and effectively. As a side function, users have other choices of emergencies such as hazards, robbery, suspicious activities and etc. In a medical crisis, Emergency Alert will also turn the victim's phone to the max and alert nearby people with a ring, which will attract attention.
How we built it
We programmed Emergency Alert in java and xml, and built it using Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating the APIs that allows text to speech was a difficult task. Translating the ideal design through xml coding was also time consuming.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
With majority of the team being first time hackers, we worked together to solve a real world issue, and ended up with a working prototype.
What we learned
Learned to work as a team to accomplish our tasks and how to program using Android Studio.
What's next for Emergency Alert
Introducing more features, such as the elevation of the user.
