Project Description
The Farmer's Best Practices Guide is a digital solution built on PowerApps, which aims to provide farmers with relevant tips and guidance on soil preparation, harvesting, pesticide use and control, and planting. The project leverages SharePoint list for storing data and AI Builder for the AI model to detect the health of crops.
Features
- Soil preparation: The app provides farmers with information on soil preparation practices such as tilling, fertilizing, and mulching. The app also provides recommendations on the best soil preparation practices based on the specific crops they intend to plant.
- Planting: The app provides guidance on planting practices such as seed selection, seedling care, and irrigation practices.
- Pest and disease control: The app provides information on pest and disease control practices, including pesticide use and control measures.
- Harvesting: The app provides guidance on harvesting practices such as timing, harvesting techniques, and post-harvest handling.
- AI Model: The app includes an AI model built with AI Builder that detects the health of crops. The model detects whether crops are healthy, powdery, or rusty. This feature helps farmers to identify the health status of their crops quickly and take the appropriate action.
- The app allows the farmer to upload further information regarding any problem they may be facing, or in case the image analyzer does not provide any meaningful feedback.
Known Limitations
- Lack of Instant feedback option – There is no option to allow the user to gain access to feedback of inquiries at a much faster rate. The options were to use the ChatGPT connector, but the challenge was that it was a premium connector.
- There is a lack of an information hub. Without access to actual experts in farming, the information may not be the best for the farmers. At this point, we are limited to only collecting some information and storing it on a document and linking it to the application.
- The information spans across general farming practices. It would have been better to categorize the information based on the crops. However, the current information is limited to general farming practices.
- Farmers are not able to receive updates via messages through their phone numbers at this point.
