The challenge was to design a versatile piece of furniture aimed at maximizing space in McMaster dorm rooms. Collaboratively, our team merged the functionality of a desk and additional storage with a bed, optimizing space while ensuring ease of use. Utilizing Inventor, we designed a functional project with moving parts integrating hinges and drawer glides. We faced several challenges during the design process along with the final assembly of our project, pushing us to find unique and innovative solutions. The highlight of our designathon was presenting our idea in front of educated judges who were pleased with our efforts and surprised by elements like a simulation. Overall, we had an amazing experience and were actually able to increase the available space in dorm rooms by 20%!
