Inspiration 💡

In America, 5% of the people are ADHD, which is a disease that prevent people from focusing on particular things such as studying. According to CDC, people who have ADHD have a hard time to focus on their studies than ordinary people, hence I believed there should be a way to help people who are struggling to learn new things. Also, from the source by CDC, the number of people who have ADHD are decreasing, but still it's a common disease that's widely spread in America.

I believe, with creative thinking and a proper approach, we can innovate novel methods that’ll help us tackle the same in an intuitive manner. Thus, we build, Focustudy.

What it does 🤔

Focustudy is a desktop application which gamifies the process of education by challenging the user if they know much knowledge about a particular course that they're interested in. User will win each point when he/she gets each of the questions correct. At the end, the user is asked whether he/she wants to upload their score to the leaderboard or not. Focustudy promotes ADHD students to study harder by competing with others and help engage into the course to perform better in the quiz.

Challenges we ran into 😤

There were a lot of challenges on our way. First, due to flooding amount of assignment, I was finish my assignment at the last minute which was really hard. Second, due to limitation of time, I didn't have much time to spend my time on making a working prototype

Design 🎨

I was heavily inspired by the revised version of Iterative design process, which not only includes visual design, but a full-fledged research cycle in which you must discover and define your problem before tackling your solution & then finally deploy it.

1. Discover: a deep dive into the problem we are trying to solve.
2. Define: synthesizing the information from the discovery phase into a problem definition.
3. Develop: think up solutions to the problem.
4. Deliver: pick the best solution and build that.

This time went for the minimalist Material UI design. I utilized design tools like Figma, Photoshop & Illustrator to prototype our designs before doing any coding. Through this, I was able to get iterative feedback so that we spend less time re-writing code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of ✨

I'm proud of finishing the project on time, which seemed like a tough task as I started working on it quite late due to other commitments and were also able to add most of the features that I envisioned for the app during ideation. Moreover, I learned a lot about new design technologies that I could use for our future careers.

This project was especially an achievement for me because this time the experience was very different than what I had while building typical hackathon projects, which also includes heavy brainstorming, extensive research, and yes, hitting the final pin on the board.

What we learned 🙌

Proper sleep is very important! :p Well, a lot of things, both summed up in technical & non-technical sides.

What's next for Focustudy🚀

I believe that my App has great potential. Hence, I am going to make this to production using Flutter, so it could be produced within few months of time.
