Inspiration

The growing concern about social media addiction inspired FreeWill. With the increased use of social media, it can be difficult for individuals to manage their usage and maintain a healthy balance. FreeWill was created to address this issue and assist users in taking control of their social media consumption.

FreeWill is a browser web extension that allows users to filter social media content based on their preferences. Users can use FreeWill to limit their social media usage and block content that they find distracting or triggering. By providing a more controlled and healthier environment, the extension assists users in managing their social media addiction.

The powerful browser web extension FreeWill was created using programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various browser APIs. Our team integrated a REST API built with Flask to improve its functionality, allowing for seamless communication between the front-end and back-end. Furthermore, we used cutting-edge AI techniques to create and fine-tune our own text classification model with OpenAI, resulting in an efficient and effective solution.

One of the most significant hurdles during the development of FreeWill was bridging the communication gap between two disparate servers - JavaScript and Python. Our team expertly navigated this challenge by utilizing the power of Jquery AJAX, effectively establishing seamless connectivity between the two servers. This achievement greatly streamlined the overall development process and allowed for a more efficient and streamlined solution.

Our team is extremely proud to have overcome the obstacles and successfully achieved our vision. The browser web extension FreeWill is a testament to our team's determination and hard work. With this innovative solution, we hope to make a genuine difference in the lives of people suffering from social media addiction, a problem to which we can all personally relate. FreeWill enables users to take control of their social media consumption and achieve a healthier digital balance.

Our team gained invaluable experience and knowledge in various areas of technology while developing FreeWill. We honed our front-end development skills in addition to creating browser extensions and integrating them with TikTok. Our team learned a lot about user behavior and preferences, which will help guide future development efforts. These experiences and insights have given us the skills and knowledge we need to tackle even more complex challenges and continue to push the limits of what is possible.

The FreeWill team has several plans for the future of the extension, including integrating it with various social media platforms and ensuring that it runs smoothly and efficiently, as well as improving existing functionality, adding new features, and expanding to other browsers and platforms.

Overcoming the challenge of connecting different servers between JavaScript and Python with jQuery AJAX was a significant accomplishment that allowed me to gain valuable experience in front-end development. This process taught me how to effectively integrate different technologies and platforms to create a seamless user experience.

I worked on creating the content-filtering algorithm, leveraging OpenAI models, fine-tuning for text classification. I created a Flask REST API to call the filtering algorithm as well.

I was engaged in building the front-end component of the project, which entailed the integration of a Chrome extension and the conceptualization of a pop-up interface.

I worked on the keyword matching algorithm in Javascript, as well as helped setting up and maintaining the Flask app and setting up connections between both ends.
