A recent news article popped up about how Formula 1 is offering NFT tickets now.

According to Forbes, NFTs are a billion dollar market that is growing at 33% per year, and expected to reach a whopping $231 billion by 2030!

The use cases span all industries and sectors:

  • Event Tickets: NFTs can be used as digital tickets for events, ensuring authenticity and providing a secure and convenient way for ticket holders.
  • Digital Art: NFTs allow artists to tokenize and sell their digital artwork, giving them a new way to showcase and monetize their creations.
  • Collectibles: NFTs can be used to create and collect unique digital items such as trading cards, virtual pets, or rare virtual items in video games.
  • Virtual Real Estate: NFTs enable the ownership and trading of virtual land or properties in virtual worlds, opening up possibilities for virtual real estate development.
  • Music and Media: NFTs enable musicians and content creators to sell unique music tracks, albums, or exclusive media content directly to their fans.
  • Personal Identity and Certification: NFTs can be used to verify and prove ownership of digital assets, certifications, or even personal identity.

Secondly, I have never built a Discord bot before, but I see it everywhere! So I thought it would be really cool to try it building it out.

Context

I am quite new when it comes to Blockchain. I hear about Blockchain and Web3 a lot, but I am always intimidated by how much there is to know and understand in this field ranging from smart contracts to different protocols, tokens, blockchains and more.

So when I saw that GryphHacks' theme was Hack the Future - "AI, blockchain, WebAssembly and the evolution of web development!" - I knew this was the opportunity I have been waiting for to learn more about Blockchain!

Problem

I was so excited to get started. I thought a great place to start was NFTs! Everyone knows about them. I wanted to mint my own, so I searched up on YouTube, "How to mint NFTs on Ethereum".

Lo and behold, the first video that popped was a tutorial by AWS for minting NFTs on the Ethereum Test Network that was 1 hour and 20 minutes long.

When I saw that, I kind of gave up. I thought my journey into Blockchain was over.

While I was searching for other ideas, I started realizing, "Hey, maybe there is opportunity here?" If a technical person like me is put off by the barriers of entry into Blockchain, how are every people supposed to experience everything Blockchain has to offer?

Mission

So that was my mission this weekend, make Blockchain accessible to everyone.

No technical skills needed, no setup required, no more 1 hour 20 minute tutorials just to get started.

I wanted to make minting NFTs, something I wanted to do for a long long time, as easy as it can be for the 7 billion people around the world.

That's why I made GryphMint! GryphMint is a Discord bot that allows anyone to mint NFTs through chat!

Why a Discord bot? First of all, everybody in this hackathon is using Discord including me, so I thought it would be the most familiar and accessible way to introduce people to the unfamiliar world of Blockchain.

Endgoal

So what do I want to achieve with GryphMint?

Just like ChatGPT did for AI and NLP, with a record breaking over 1.8 billion visitors per month, I want to make the unfamiliar but revolutionary world of Blockchain accessible to all.
