Inspiration
The idea for Guzz came up when our washing machine broke down on a Saturday evening and we couldn't fix it - despite of all those YouTube videos available online. So we asked ourselves: why isn't there an app, where you can just pick-up your phone, contact someone who's more tech-savvy than you, and let them help you out.
What it does
Guzz combines features of Skype with a social network where everybody can become a Guzz Guru to assist others. It's not an expert finder - it's a community. Just like a "1:1 nextdoor".
How I built it
Based on Meteor, Cordova (for iOS and Android apps) and WebRTC for the live video chat stuff.
Challenges I ran into
Getting everything work on mobile and desktop devices.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We already have 200+ Gurus for 400+ topics on the plattform.
What I learned
It's hard to start a social network from scratch.
What's next for Guzz.io
Launching in the US.
