Inspiration
According to a global survey, about 33 percent of adults experienced feelings of loneliness worldwide. According to another survey conducted in 2021 among G7 countries, about seven in 10 people experienced a worsening of their psychological health during the pandemic. A study on clinician-reported changes in selected health behaviors in the United States showed that during the pandemic patients suffered more from feelings of loneliness, depression or anxiety, and burnout. We ourselves have faced similar situations a few times and therefore sought to fix it in whatever we can. Journaling has been considered to be one of the primary ways of dealing with loneliness as well as various mental health-related issues. Certain activities, such as reading, cycling, and singing, among others, are thought to stimulate the release of happy hormones. Even a few fruitful conversations throughout the day are enough to maintain the balance of a person's life. Keeping these things in mind, we decided to develop Healry!
What it does
Healry is a web-app with a smart journal where a user can vent their emotions and then receive quests to help them feel better if they are down. The users are also awarded for completing these quests. It also includes an integrated chatbot that assists users in having conversations when they are lonely or feel as if they don't have anyone to talk to.
How we built it
The smart journal is analyzed by a recurrent neural network sentiment analysis model that then classifies if a person is sad or upset and then recommends to them the quests that they can pursue such as walking, meditation, cycling, bathing, etc. The integrated AI chatbot is built using a transformer in TensorFlow v2.
Challenges we ran into
The vision that we had for our project was very vast so bringing it to reality was a bit difficult in such a short amount of time but we have tried our best and produced something that we are quite proud of!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making something we're proud of in such a short amount of time, and feel like with a little more effort, we could actually make a big difference in the world!
What we learned
We are glad that we learned a few technical skills that we lacked and also about mental health and how we can implement various technological tools to help with it
What's next for Healry
We intend to make it a bit more elaborate in the future and hopefully one day bring actual impact with it!
