Inspiration

Recognizing the racial disparities in the healthcare system, we were inspired to create a safe space online for black women to feel comfortable and get the care that they deserve.

What it does

We have designed an app builds a healthy journey between BIPOC patients and the BIPOC doctors, building trust, comfort and accessibility to all. Our focus:

  1. Build trust and reliability with Health Professionals through certified reviews and communication
  2. Provide accessible virtual health scans and assessments and recommend professionals in local areas
  3. Promote comfortability by allowing patients to filter health professionals based on preferences
  4. Ensure the platform is a safe space to share health experiences with licensed professionals

How we built it

We built this app using the prototyping tool, Figma. (As a part of our technical progress, we did explore the plug-in anima to generate code, though this process was not fully documented)

Challenges we ran into

Challenges include the time limit that restricted us from performing further user testing. In the future, we hope to test our product with additional BIPOC users to receive further feedback and and make adjustments accordingly.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

As first-time hackers, our team is proud of using our different areas of skills to create an app that promotes social good. We are advocators for women's empowerment and racial equality, and this was a great way to bring us together to find potential solutions.

What we learned

Our team, with backgrounds in sociology, health sciences, marketing, graphic design, and UX/product design, we all learned how to collaborate our skills to create a successful health care app. This was also a learning opportunity to extend our knowledge about the implicit bias and racial disparities in health care.

What's next for HealthSpace.

  1. Partnering with health care professionals and hospitals
  2. Collecting data from app users and continue to update platform according to patients needs through Google Cloud
  3. Outreach to target markets using social media and receive insights from BIPOC healthcare professionals
