Inspiration
Lack of information creates barriers -this is true across the board for people, but evermore present for people who are blind, deaf, and anyone else with physical disabilities. Through Hereful we want to create pockets of abundance in information, we want to keep our communities safe and be able to extend care for those who need it.
What it does
Hereful is a digital community bulletin board designed to share alerts related to accessibility. By tracking your location, Hereful will show you alerts shared by people in that proximity. Alerts and posts range from information around elevators that are out of service, accessible walkways, or trigger warnings for sensitive sightings.
How we built it
Built using React framework, Javascript, and managed backend database using Firebase. UI/UX mockups created through Figma.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to integrate geolocations and make the web app mobile-friendly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're able to create a fully functioning mockup with MVP features and host is through Firebase.
What we learned
We learned how to implement a brand new UI we haven't used before, Chakra UI. We also worked as a team with varying ranges in technical abilities. Our team learned a lot around working as a cohesive team, supporting one another (one of our members created a pr for the first time!), and overall creating something we're all passionate about.
