Inspiration
Our original thought process was around how to provide tenants resources to prevent eviction, and we realized that landlords actually have the most motivation to avoid evicting tenants.
What it does
Provides CoC, landlords, and at risk tenants with the resources to prevent homelessness before its starts. Our app will take over the payments and act as a cosigner on the lease to prevent evictions, meanwhile connecting CoC’s with at risk clients.
How we built it
We created a portal for CoC members to work with tenants and a dashboard for tenants to manage their payments.
Challenges we ran into
Incentives for tenants to use the app and pay back the rent the app helped pay. There are also legal issues the app needs to sort out before arriving on the market.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud to have identified a preventative solution to homelessness which will help shut off the flow of new homeless people.
What we learned
The biggest takeaway was how unbeneficial evictions are to all parties involved, especially landlords and the inherent motivation they have to avoid evictions, which aligns exactly with the tenant’s needs.
What's next for OOP
Our immediate next step would be to expand our system to include the existing homeless population in addition to the data we collect on at-risk population.
