Inspiration
Our initial inspiration was educative.io. Quoting their site, 'Reading is faster than watching: The average tutorial is spoken at 150 words per minute. You can read at 250'. It takes faster to read than it is to go through videos. Our inspiration was to have a learning medium where we can quickly understanding without going through hours and hours of content. But what we developed is much more than a lecture transcribing app.
What it does
It is a chrome extension that records the audio of the active tab. It can be used for transcribing lectures, creating MoMs and taking notes by dictation. It is all in one speech-to-text application.
How we built it
We used Nodejs to create a chrome extension which records audio. The audio is then sent to Google Cloud Storage. We then Send the video URL to AssemblyAI Api's for audio processing and render the result on a new tab.
Challenges we ran into
- We struggled with object permission in Google Cloud
- It was our first time working on chrome extension.
Built With
- assemblyai
- node.js
